Adjusting to the role of a Timelord
As we count down the days to the end of David Tennant’s tenure as the 900+ year old Timelord, most likely on New Year’s day at the hands of the Master, Doctor Who is set for big changes (not least the logo, Tardis and Doctor himself – I wonder if the familiar brown/gold look the show will go too) and newcomer Matt Smith has his work cut out carving his way into the hearts of viewers around the world.
No doubt, Christopher Eccleston struggled in early episodes as the “every planet’s got a North”, likeable happy chappy, being a huge change from Paul McGann’s more traditional William Hartnell like interpretation, until his defining moment in episode, “Dalek”. It even took a few shows for David to find his own tone for the character, blending aspects of himself, Peter Davison, Tom Baker, and a touch of Patrick Troughton and Colin Baker – perhaps finding his pace somewhere around “The Girl in the Fireplace”. Matt Smith will likely emerge in a typical maths/science teacher look, something that’s been bandied around from glimpses of filming, which will probably be a short term thing whilst he settles in and finds his own style.
Think for a moment of the companions too, as the Doctor emerges as an even younger man, his current accompaniment of companions may be pondering their own future, especially as new companion Amy Pond steps into the scene, and what too of the Doctor’s Daughter?
