SEO from the ground up
By jasonslater • Mar 31st, 2008 • Category: SEOIn order to fully understand and explore SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) my plan is to build a search engine. I run a number of Blogs and whilst I try and concentrate on producing good quality content I am always trying to find ways of connecting to new readers and raising the awareness of my work. SEO is just one of the many tools available to build an online presence but it can be a highly competitive, time consuming and technically challenging task so this experiment will hopefully break down some of these barriers and help me, and you, understand the what works and what doesn’t.
EggnChips used to be around many years ago and started out as an online bookmarking site which then turned into a link directory. Dusting off the old code it is quite apparent that things have moved on and new techniques abound - and not to mention Web 2.0 where Social Bookmarking is a phenomenon.
The first stage I am aiming for is getting most of the old platform up and running which means re-creating the database structures and ensuring the code still works. You can keep track of progress via this Blog and see the work in action on http://www.eggnchips.com though be prepared that this is a constant work in progress so expect some errors!
More detailed technical code issues will likely be discussed on my SL8R - Code Zone Blog over at http://www.sl8r.co.uk in order that this Blog can focus on the discussion of SEO techniques and Social Media technologies.
Your input and feedback is welcomed. To keep up to date with progress why not subscribe to the feed? If you are unsure what a feed is then this may help explain: What you need to know about feeds.
