Guild Wars Pets: What Are They and Where to Get Them

If you play Guild Wars, it’s likely that you might see other characters with GW pets and maybe you want to get one for yourself. Almost every MMORPG has pets of some sort but they can vary greatly in what they are, what they look like and what they do from game to game.

Guild Wars is no exception. In fact, they have several different pets within the game and within the different campaigns of the game. For example, if you have one campaign and a friend has another, you will both have access to pets and be able to play together but you will have access to different types of pets. You might have a pet that your friend can’t get unless they get the campaign you are playing.

So what kind of pets are we talking about here? The most common Guild Wars pets are mini pets. These are small creatures that can be carried with you as you play. They don’t serve any actual practical purpose. For example, they don’t fight for you. They’re cute and fun to collect, too.

However, there is also another type of Guild Wars pet called the animal companion. These creatures do fight alongside you in the game. When you have the Charm Animal skill equipped to your bar you can control your pet using the standard attack skills and also boost their attacks with Pet Attack skills. You will have a pet interface screen that allows you to see more about your pet and control their movements. These are different from minions and you can tell them to attack, heel, etc.

GW pets and animal companions do not take up party member space in your party because they are considered allies. They can earn experience from battles, even if they’re dead or get far away from your party in a combat situation. This makes it good to have your pet out and ready when you are doing quests and killing monsters so the pet gets the experience, too.

Keep in mind that experience bonuses from completing missions and quests will not affect your pet. They will also not get any effects from experience scrolls. Guild Wars pets have a level cap of 20 just like the player cap.

You can even customize your pet by changing the name using the /petname <name> command. You cannot change the names of hero pets. The basic commands of GW pets are attack mode, guard mode, heel mode and pet name. With these basics, you can do pretty much whatever you want with your pet. Now you’re all ready to get your Guild Wars pet today!
