Stuck For The Word?

Although, in fairness Wordnik isn’t a real word – its a brand name so would we really expect it to appear (Heinz and Google are both in there!) ?

Whilst we wait for a good definition we could describe the service as a project whose aim is to discover and describe all words and their meanings. Where Wiki could be described as the peoples encyclopaedia Wordnik would probably be described as the peoples dictionary. It is an ambitious project which currently contains over 1.7 million words which sounds a lot but how many words are there in the world? If you consider all the languages, dialects, character symbols and all there are probably billions of words in existence so there is a long way left to go.
