Skill mastery, or level 99, is a prestigious time in a RuneScapers career; gaining a level 99 means you have access to a Skill mastery cape, and of course the Skill cape Emote. Getting level 99 isn’t easy, it takes hard work, time and patience. There is no way to a ‘quick’ 99, but that depends on your idea of how long quick is. The bottom line is, in such skills as Cooking, Fletching, Herblore, Fire making, and Crafting, the more money you spend, the quicker you’ll gain those levels until you get to skill mastery.

What benefits are there for me, if i get to level 99? .

Skill cape – The Skill cape can be bought at level 99, by a specific NPC (Non-Player Character), for example, the Fishing Skill cape can be bought from the Fishing Master, outside of the Fishing Guild, wearing a Skill cape puts you among the few players who have reached this skill mastery.

Emote – Skill capes also come with a Skill cape Emote, the Emote is specific to that skill, some are more popular then others, such as Agility, which has a very awesome Emote, compared with Thieving, which shows a man stealing a sack of gold, not as exciting.

Above, is my character performing the Fletching Skill Cape Emote.

This all sounds expensive! How much will it cost? Well, the amount of money spent varies between skills, for example:

Fletching – Moderate, can cost from as little was 3.5million Gold.

Herblore – Very Expensive! Can cost 350 – 500 million depending on the speed you’d like to get 99.

Cooking – Cheapest out of all ‘buyable 99’s’, costs as low as 3 million Gold, this is done by buying the food, cooking it, selling it, and buying more.

Construction – Second most expensive to get, can cost 150 million, to 500 million, depending on the method.

Crafting – Third most expensive, can cost between 50 million, to 250 million, depending on the method.

Fire Making – Can cost as little, as 10 Million coins, the more money spent on logs, the quicker you’ll get level 99.

Note – The RuneScape economy over time, sometimes prices increase, or decrease, watch out for this when choosing your 99.

On 12th April 2010, Jagex (makers of RuneScape), released Dungeoneering to free players and members. The Skill is trained in Daegonheim, a new place brought out by Jagex pacifically for training Dungeoneering, it is also the only place that Dungeoneering can be trained in.

Dungeoneering combines all skills and so to begin with, many RuneScapers did not consider it as a skill, more of a mini-game. The aim is to solve a puzzle, or a maze of chambers, battling all sorts of different monsters, until you reach the final boss monster, a player and/or his clan will have to forge their way through this maze, making weapons (Smithing and Fletching skills), cooking food for sustenance (Cooking skill), to battle their way through; There already we see several different skills being implemented into Dungeoneering.

How do I start Dungeoneering?

Firstly, you must head to Al Kharid, (south-west of Lumbridge, past the toll gate, which costs 10GP to pass), and head to the Al Kharid bank, to the South-west of the city, north of the bank, is a Fremennik warrior, (of the Fremennik tribe in Relekka, North of the map), he will give you some vital information and transport you there.

Secondly, make your way up the hill, to the large Daegonheim castle and into the waiting room. A good tip for you, is to change to World 117, this is a Dungeoneering specific world, here, you will find more players trying to train the skill with you, thus, easier to find a clan and start training!

This is my character at the waiting room at Daegonheim, note the players looking to create and join clans.

Some things to note about Dungeoneering -

You do not require a clan to play, you can ‘solo’, it is strongly advised to join a clan though.

You must bank all items, weapons, before you can play, a bank can be found south-west of the waiting room.

This is a great skill for everyone, it combines players who prefer combat, and players who prefer skilling together, this skill truly does work, a great addition to RuneScape.

Travelling around RuneScape can be hard if you do not know the map well, or are new to the game. In this article, I hope to outline some of the main issues when travelling around RuneScape, and hopefully it will help you if you are new to the game or become lost in your adventures.

A key part of finding your way around RuneScape is the world map (link found adjacent to the mini-map). The World Map lets you see the entire RuneScape world, allowing you to search for a particular place, shops/landmarks (drop down menu), and lets you search the entire map yourself, using a click and drag system, just click where you are, and drag any direction, the map will know focus on the place you have just dragged your cursor to. The Mini-Map is a smaller map, allowing you to click to move, and the space around you, the Mini-Map is vital for movement over long distances, and can you show you essential landmark icons, for example, the $ symbol, is a bank.

What methods can your use to get around RuneScape? –

Teleport – By using the magic skill, and certain Runes, teleporting is great when trying to get to a particular place, quickly. For example – Ardougne is a members city, and takes a while to get there by foot, but by harnessing the power of the required runes (2 law runes, and 2 waters) and provided you have the required Magic level (Level 51), your player can teleport to a city which can take up to an hour to get to!

By Foot – Walking and running, are the most common form of transporting your player around RuneScape. Walking is done most of the time, and running works on a percentage basis, 100% is full run energy, and 0% requires you to stop. A recent update to RuneScape, allows your player to sit down and rest, which is great for long journeys. Also Jagex created Musicians, where you can sit down, relax and listen, and your run energy can restore a lot faster.

Boats – Overseas, great way for making your way to an Island, that you cannot teleport to.

Dwarven Mine Carts – Requires The Giant Dwarf quest to be completed, on completion, you can use the carts to get to Keldagrim, a city which can take a long time to get to.

The best way to increase your knowledge of the RuneScape world, is to simply explore the map, and familiarise yourself with some of the major cities, like Varrock, Lumbridge, Falador, and Camelot. By increasing your magic level, you are also decreasing the amount of time you spend walking/running to a place.

Remember, RuneScape is a vast landscape, even the most experienced players get lost so don’t worry about simply asking for directions.

RuneScape Classic is known as the first version of RuneScape, RuneScape as we know it is usually referred to as RuneScape 2 to many older, and experienced players, whereas others may not of even heard of RuneScape Classic!

RuneScape 2 as we know it, was released in early 2004 and gained popularity very quickly, RuneScape Classic at the time was just referred to as RuneScape, until the release of the newer version. Many players migrated over to the newer version, with only a small population still playing the older one, eventually Jagex decided to discontinue it to all new players, and decided to only let the players who were originally playing RuneScape Classic play it if they wish.

RuneScape Classic was released in early 2001, it is still maintained on the official website. In Mid-November 2009, Jagex decided to make RuneScape Classic public again, to all RuneScape members. Any RuneScape member logging in during the 2 week event will be able to play the game after the event period is over. (Note: The amount of time that Jagex is releasing RuneScape Classic after the two week period for all members who have logged into the game during the 2 weeks, has not yet been determined).

Why did players switch to RuneScape 2 from RuneScape Classic?

RuneScape 2 provided a better playing experience, many were drawn by its much better graphics, which are more 3D, have better colour and contrast, and have a lot more quality, whereas RuneScape Classic had a very low grade graphics quality. Others were drawn by the new skills that were given, and the items, for example, RuneScape Classic only had regular trees, with an update with members only having other trees, although when RuneScape Classic was released, both members, and non-members, were given both regular, and other types of trees, such as Willow, Oak, and Yew.

In Conclusion, RuneScape Classic was just the beginning of RuneScape as we know it, it paved the way for great updates, and a great playing experience to be given to RuneScape. Perhaps one day soon RuneScape 3 will become available – I don’t know about you, but that sounds like something waiting for!

Play RuneScape Classic.

RuneScape is a vast world of Cities, Villages, Rivers, Castles, and Seas. A non-member (also known as Free to Play) on RuneScape (a person who plays the game for free) has access to a smaller part of RuneScape (main cities include Lumbridge, Varrock, Falador, Draynor Village, Al Kharid, Edgeville), whereas a Member (A person who pays to play the game, and has access to more in the game), has access to all the map on RuneScape, (more cities include Camelot, Catherby, Ardougne, Gnome Stronghold, and a lot more).

What are some ways of travelling on RuneScape?

Teleporting – Teleporting is done with a specific Magic level, the first teleport spell that can be done is the Lumbridge Homeport, which is free and doesnt require any Runes to cast. Varrock Teleport is the next teleport spell, which requires 25 Magic, and 3 air runes, 1 fire rune, and a law rune. Teleport spells will need a law rune plus specific runes to cast (apart from the Lumbridge Home Teleport spell, which doesnt require any).

Walking/Running – Walking on RuneScape is done when clicking somewhere on the ground or mini-map, clicking on that place will take you there. Running is done when clicking the Run icon, on the right of the Mini-map, which Is found on the top right corner of the screen. Running is for a limited time until you stop when he reaches 0, you will then have to wait for this to recharge, the rest option can be found when right clicking on the Run Energy Icon, this will recharge your energy even faster. Musicians around RuneScape (One in Catherby, Varrock, Falador, etc.) will recharge you Energy even quicker.

What is the World map?

The World map is found when clicking on the World map icon found in the top right part of the screen, on the left of the mini-map. The World map can be very useful when finding where to go. You will first see that it does tell you were you currently are, marked with an X and a ‘You are here’ next to it. The world map is very useful, as it points out landmarks, cities, and shops, So you’ll always know what town your in, where the nearest shop is, and where to get to it.

What about the compass?

The compass can also be very useful when finding your way around RuneScape. The RuneScape world map doesnt have a compass on it, but it is set so when looking upwards, that is north, when looking to your right, that’s East, when looking downwards that’s South, and when looking Left, that’s West. The RuneScape compass is found on the top-right corner of the mini-map on the top-right corner of the screen.

During the Quest, do the world map and compass help?

When starting a Quest, you usually have to talk to someone, and it will usually say Talk to this person in this place (for example, to start the cooks assistant quest, you must talk to the Cook in the Lumbridge Castle). You need to find Lumbridge on the World map, open the world map, and search for Lumbridge (To search, simply type ‘Lumbridge’ into the world map, it will then go straight to Lumbridge), now all you need to do it see which way Lumbridge is from your current location (Is it Left? West. Is it Right? East, etc.). The Lumbridge home teleport can be used, but I was using Lumbridge as an example.

Are there any other maps on RuneScape?

Yes there are, the newcomer map can be brought from any General Store, for a very low price, this is a very simple map, it has marked on it only a few cities, and the shape of the land, (marked on it are Lumbridge, Rimmington, Varrock, Al Kharid, and the Draynor Village, The River Lum is shown on the map as well). The map also has a handy compass on it, so you know which direction each town/city is, there is also a feature for showing the Lumbridge Tutor.

What are the Lumbridge Tutors?

These Tutors were put on RuneScape to help new players find out about skills, Such as the Melee tutor (teaches you how to fight on RuneScape), the cooking tutor teaches you how and why you can cook on RuneScape, and many more, they can be found around Lumbridge, and sometimes can give you free items and jobs to earn some coins!

What are Runes and how can I get them?

Runes are very useful things to cast spells, they can be purchased from Magic shops (like in Varrock) the Grand Exchange, and a small amount is given by the Lumbridge Magic tutor, and when you finish Tutorial island, you are given some.

Teleporting, what is this such a good way to get around?

Well, Instead of walking to the place, which can sometimes take a long time, with Teleporting you can just go directly to the place. Some common Teleporting spells are the Lumbridge Home teleport (no Runes, level 1 magic needed), Varrock Teleport spell (1 Fire, 3 Air Runes, 1 Law Rune, 25 Magic level needed). Lumbridge Teleport Spell (Level 31 magic needed, 3 Airs, 1 Earth Rune, 1 Law Rune). Falador Teleport Spell (3 airs, 1 Water Rune, 1 Law Rune, Level 37 Magic level needed). Camelot Teleport Spell (Members only, 5 airs, 1 Law, 45 Magic needed).

In conclusion, There are several ways to get around RuneScape, with many aids to help you out when your lost, or just want to get to a place quickly. Remember that RuneScape is meant to be challenging, and require some time, and thinking, remember not to give up.

If you’ve played RuneScape, you may have already encountered Player Killing, abbreviated in most MMORPGs as “PKing”. This is when you kill another player within the game in PvP (player versus player). This does refer to specific PvP designated zones but instead to player-killing while in questing and levelling zones.

Fighting against other players is much more dangerous in an MMORPG than fighting against monsters. There are different reasons for this. The first reason for this being that players are unpredictable. With monsters, you know that they will follow the same basic patterns and you know which abilities they have and do not have.

With other players, this isn’t always the case. The individual player’s skill can also play a part in how the fight goes. You also have to remember that you never know when they will have friends waiting in the background to finish you off as soon as you flag for PK.

However, killing other players can also bring great rewards in many cases so this is one reason so many RuneScape players enjoy PKing. Not all are in it for the rewards as many people do it because they enjoy the challenge.

Before you go around attacking other players, you also need to be aware of the risks involved. When you attach someone, your alignment will be set to evil and you get a skull over your head. When you have the skull over your head, the risk is higher as when you die, you can drop everything you’re holding. You won’t be able to keep your top three items like you can before.

To get rid of the skull, you will need to play for 20 minutes without attacking anyone. Then you will get your three-item protection back again as well.

If you want to learn more about RuneScape PKing, you might look for PK guides online. This is where other experts in player killing within RuneScape can tell you how to be successful in your own efforts and have more fun with PKing on your account.

Some good Quests to start out on are:

Cooks Assistant (started by speaking to the Cook in the Lumbridge Castle. Rewards 1 Quest point, 300 cooking experience, and the Cook now lets you use the range in Lumbridge Castle, which has a less chance of burning your raw item, when cooking it.)

Restless Ghost (started by speaking to the Priest in the church opposite Lumbridge Castle. Rewards 1 Quest point, 1125 Prayer experience, and an amulet of Ghost speak, which you can use to talk to ghosts around RuneScape, and useful in other quests such as Ghosts Ahoy (members) and Creature of Frankenstein (members)

Sheep Shearer (started by speaking to Fred the Farmer in the farm in Lumbridge. Rewards 1 quest point, 150 crafting experience, and 60 coins)

How do you pick the right Quest?

Here are some suggestions for picking which Quest to start out on.

I bought a new weapon/item, but when I wield it, it says I do not have the right to wield it?

When you try to wield some items, such as the Dragon Scimitar, you may need to complete a certain quest. For example, the Monkey Madness Quest is required before you can wield the Dragon scimitar, this quest can be started by speaking to King Narnode Shareen at the Gnome Stronghold.

Other items that you cannot wield before completing a certain Quest are the Dragon Weapons. Before you can wield any of these, you need to complete the Lost City Quest, which can be started by speaking to the adventurers in the Lumbridge swamp.

Ancient Magicks can only be used when completing the Desert Treasure quest, this is started by speaking to the Archaeologist in the Bedabin camp, south west of the Shanty Pass.

I want gain access to a certain area

Perhaps you have reached a certain area on Runescape but discover you cannot get into it. For example, the tunnel under White Wolf mountain, which requires the Fishing Contest before access is granted.

Sometimes, when trying to access an area which is prohibited until you have completed a certain Quest, you will be spoken to by an Non-Player Character (NPC), who will ask you if you would like to start that Quest.

There is a particular reward item I want

Sometimes you want to obtain the item you get at the end of a particular Quest, such as the Saradomin/Guthix/Zamorak damaged book you get at the end of the horror from the deep Quest. There are many quests like this, such as the Desert Treasure Quest, which you obtain Ancient Magicks which is very useful new combat option. The Prince Ali Rescue Quest is another which gives you the right to go through the Lumbridge to Al Kharid toll gate for free.

I want the Quest cape

After completion of all the Quests, the Quest cape is awarded by the wise old man of Draynor Village for 99,000 coins. However, this is a long term goal, and probably not on everyone’s mind until they have reached very high Quest points.

I want to gain experience points

Some Quests give experience points at the end of the Quest, usually in the form of 2 or more lamps, that, when rubbed, give you a menu showing you what skills you could obtain. Such Quests that give experience are Monkey Madness (by speaking to King Narnode Shareen to start, and the Dragon Slayer Quest, started by speaking to the Guild master as the Champions guild, just outside of Varrock)

In this article I have outlined some of the issues you may come across when considering a Quest in RuneScape, and what rewards you may get when you complete a Quest.

Playing RuneScape can be very fun, but also very challenging, This article will give you ten tips on being successful in the game that hopefully you can use to make some money, train your skills, and have more fun.

Many people who want to make money on RuneScape, train skills, etc., usually don’t want to spend an long time doing that. Although, the best moneymaking can be done when you have taken some time to learn how to do it.

Here are ten tips on succeeding on RuneScape:

Train for Combat

One of the most popular things to do on RuneScape, is to train for combat and this can be done by training in the areas of Attack, Strength, Defence, Magic, Range, Prayer, and Summoning.

To train Attack, Strength or Defence up, the weapons you can wield depend on your attack level and the armour you can wield is dependent on your Defence level. Magic is used by casting spells using Runes. Range is trained when using thrown, bows and arrows, crossbow and bolts. Hitpoints is trained when attacking things, and can be done when using any combat style, Summoning is trained when making pouches.

There is much more to talk about with regard to training so I have put together a dedicated article together talking just about combat training.

Train for Fishing skills

I personally found this a great way to make money, and trained my fishing level very high, level 60 + fishing is very good for making money. You can catch fish by using a net, rod and bait, fly-fishing rod and feathers, big net, and a harpoon. You use these on the specific spots (found around RuneScape near to rivers, seas, etc. When fishing you obtain Raw Fish, these can be either cooked on a fire or range, or sold to Non-Player Characters (NPC) or to other players.

High level monsters

(This is a members only skill) Killing high levelled monsters like iron/steel dragons, can lead to good drops every kill. This is only recommended for players with combat levels of 85 and higher, and remember to bring an anti-dragon fire shield/ant-fire potion with you.

Flax Picking

(This is a members only skill) You can Pick Flax at Seers village and bank it at Seers village, this is a very good one for people with low combat/low skill levels. Seers village is North of the Flax field – there is a bank in Seers village

Tree Cutting

Cut down trees with the woodcutting skill. This is another great way to make money, the best level to get is about 60, which will allow you to cut the Yew trees. The best money in Woodcutting can be found when chopping Magic trees.

Slayer Skill

(This is a members only skill) Train the slayer skill, if you have a good Slayer task you may be in luck in getting a good Slayer kill drop. Slayer tasks depend on your Slayer level and to get a Slayer task you need to visit a Slayer master. The first Slayer master can be found at Burthrope. You will be assigned to despatch a certain amount of monsters. For example, the ugly goblins -these can be found in Lumbridge.

Asking for money

Never ask others for money, chances are they wont give you any, and the trade limit is dependent on your Quest points anyway.

Clue scrolls

(This is a members only tip) Clue scrolls are obtained when killing an Non-player character (NPC). To obtain a clue scroll you obtain a map or riddle, which is a clue to talk to an NPC, search, or dig somewhere, clue scrolls usually last for 5 simultaneous clues, until you get your reward.

Crafting Skill

(This is a members only skill) Remember the flax earlier? Well instead of selling it, train your crafting skill to level 10, then go to spinning wheel, there is one found on the second floor of the Lumbridge castle, and the second floor of a house in Seers Village, each close to a bank. Doing this can give you some good profit. If you pick the flax yourself, it is pure profit.

Train for Quests

Quests are good ways to unlock new weapons, and have fun, For example, during the Monkey Madness Quest you can unlock the Dragon Scimitar weapon. Another good point of Quests, is that you can gain experience from completing them, so you can train a lot quicker. A good Quest to get started with on RuneScape, is the Cooks Assistant quest, you can start this by speaking to the cook in the Lumbridge castle.

If you are planning a Quest you might want to read my Questing article.

In this article, I have outlined some good ways of getting yourself some money, training your skills, and choosing the right Quest. I hope you find it useful.

Cheating, duping or hacking in a game like Runescape can get your account banned from most servers. This type of activity is usually only allowed on private servers where the owner has given permission. If you want more money in Runescape, it may seem tempting to try to get it the easy way.
