Who Will Survive in Survivors?

Season Two of the re-imagination of classic TV science fiction hit, The Survivors, is almost upon us – scheduled for broadcast on 12th January 2010 on BBC One and picking up from the big cliff-hanger where we saw Greg gunned down and Abby kidnapped.
If you are unfamiliar with the storyline a deadly virus wipes out the majority of the earths population, leaving a few survivors to try and find a life and stay alive.
The original Terry Nation series, broadcast in the 1970s, starred popular screen actor Ian McCulloch, in the lead role of Greg Preston, and featured Carolyn Seymour as Abby Grant, Talfryn Thomas as Tom Price, and Dennis Lill as Charles Vaughan (who only appears in one episode of season 1). The series ran for three seasons.
Season one introduced Julie Graham as Abby Grant, Paterson Joseph as Greg Preston and Max Beesley as Tom Price. The first episode featured Freema Agyeman and Shaun Dingwall, better known for their appearances in Doctor Who but they have not appeared since. The season was a mixed bag but the biggest problem for me seemed to be that much of the storyline was predictable and things happened to the characters almost for the sake of moving along each episode rather than contributing to the story as a whole.
On the back of the recent success of The Day Of The Triffids re-imagination, and with Doctor Who slated for Spring, Survivors series two looks set to up the ante and deliver a vital dose of science fiction action to the current television schedules. We can’t wait…
